If you’re a scrapbooker, you might already have these on hand: a paper trimmer or card making trimmer, scissors and a cutting mat. You can also use extras like decorative stamps, ribbons, metallic pens and stickers.
Just as you would in a scrapbooking project, use items that have some personal meaning, such as theatre or concert tickets, a favorite photo (like an Instagram print) of you and your sweetheart, their favorite quote in a unique typeface or anything that’s special to the two of you.
Start with a neutral colored piece of cardstock. The standard size for a whole page is 8 ½” x 11” while the standard card size is 5” x 7”, so cut the page in half to get two smaller notecards. To make a folded card, cut the stock down to 7” x 10” and fold it in half. Remember that larger, heavier or square envelopes require more postage.
Fiskars recommends beginners start by trying something repetitive, such as lining up strips of paper or punched circles. When you get comfortable with switching up your design, snip the ends of paper strips into banner shapes or create designs out of your punched shapes.
If you love elements of your card so much that you want to share with everyone, make an assembly line! For instance, if your card has a frame with a special photo in it, make several cards and put a different photo in each one. Or use one design with a special quote to fit each friend. Even changing the color scheme but keeping the format will make it easy to make more cards, while keeping them personalized.
