Five Allergy Tips for Holiday Vacations
Review five allergy tips that can prepare you for indoor and outdoor allergens like pollen, dust mites and pet dander.
PLAN FOR POLLEN
The pollen count differs around the country so, to know what you’re in for and plan accordingly, start watching the pollen levels at your destination a few days before you leave.
PACK YOUR PILLOWCASE
If you suspect that you may come across a dust mite or two (or even if you don’t) it’s a great idea to take your pillowcases with you. If you have the space, pack your pillows too.
CONTROL YOUR CLIMATE
Heating and air conditioners can make allergy symptoms flare up. Ask your friends and loved ones in advance if they have an air filter for your room.
PREP THE PETS
If your hosts are enthusiastic pet owners, ask them ahead of time to keep Fluffy and Frodo out of your sleeping areas so you arrive to a dander-free zone.
LEND A HAND
Offer to help clean your host’s home every day that you’re with them. It’s polite and means you’ll be able keep indoor allergens under control without ruffling any feathers.
